On my evening walks I fantasize about winning lotto and restoring a 1960's bungalow that I've seen for sale, to its former glory. Like most houses in the neighbourhood, it has a permit to be demolished and replaced by four dwellings on the section.
Yesterday I indulged my fantasy at the Grand Designs Live expo at the Melbourne Convention Centre, by collecting pamphlets and buying back issues of design magazines to put in my show bag (I also found myself purchasing a Bellini multi chopper within minutes of arrival).
The highlight of my day was meeting architect and presenter of Grand Designs Australia, Peter Maddison. Funnily enough, when he asked me my fave episode, I was so nervous that I blanked and could only think of it after the fact... series 1, episode 9: Indented Head House - dammit!
Tomorrow night I'm spending an evening with Kevin McCloud at The Plenary, the ticket a very thoughtful birthday present.
